Just received an independent promo from the Irish brutal death metal band Slave Zero and I'd have to say that this record really surprised the hell out of me. Slave Zero have a pretty identifiable sound with influences the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, and Napalm Death that I can hear anyway. Not surprisingly however is that this is straight to your throat brutal death metal. All five of these tracks are relentless with thumping double bass skins, a thick bass, and steady guitarwork that accompany the growl/scream vocals with excellent precision. I think my favorite track on the album is probably the title track, "The Pain Remits", merely because it sounds like it could have come of Cannibal Corpse's "Kill". This track has everything you want in a brutal death track: heaviness with melody, attacking vocals, and a vicious rhythm section make this song an excellent way to open the record. Other than that fantastic track, "The Pain Remits" is a solid record top to bottom. I'm personally not about to call them the next Cannibal Corpse but they are good. If you can find "The Pain Remits", defintely check it out. Can't wait to hear more from these guys.
