Gary Oldman is always good for a cool intro line. Just like his 'Leon' alter-ego, Slave Zero from Ireland also like the calm before the storm. Long-winded it is not, the Irish rage mercilessly from the first minute to the last and remorselessly crush everything that stands in their path. No prisoners are taken with this brutal mix of Death Metal, Grind and Hardcore. Much has happened in the seven years since their debut. Slave Zero are more progressive, yet also more brutal and have made a jump towards a technical massacre within Death Metal. No subtle-down-to-the-last-detail-mathematical-riffs here. However plenty of meticulous intricacies, breakdowns and changes of pace are present. Singing guitars, unexpected blast-beats and vocals, which veer between aggressive hardcore shouts, hectic grindcore screaming and the deepest of death metal growls, define the picture perfectly.

The album is a spinning rotarblade, overwhelming in it's relentlessness and also in it's sometimes uncompromising arrangement. Small highlights such as "Engineering Opportunities ...", or the closing "Vengeance", stand out due to the accenting and solo work on the guitars, as well as for their complex structures, which loosen up the generally remorseless character of the album. In stark comparison are some two-fisted brutal tracks, which despite some instrumental variation uprightly scythe their way forward. The sound is nasty and cavernous, much like the voice on the microphone, although it does tend to get weary and this takes from the allure of this offering. Of course if your preference is for the sounds of violent frenzy, then we can only articulate our unequivocal recommendation for Slave Zero. If you're looking for 35 minutes of Death-Grind-Hardcore-War in your headset you should have a listen to "Exempt From All Tolerance".
